Buck Hill Ski Area - Minnesota
In 1954, a cleared slope, a small building and a rope tow appeared just south of the Minnesota River. It was called Buck Hill. Steadily, it began to grow. Four years later, Buck boasted 4 lifts and 3 slopes. Already its proximity to the Twin Cities and the variety of challenging runs was winning Buck ardent fans.
The present-day location of Buck Hill actually got its start as a ski area in the 1930's. Fred Pabst, of the famous brewing family, started a ski area on this site. He also owned a number of other ski areas across the country, including Bromley Mountain in Vermont. His plan was to run a chain of ski areas from coast to coast. Unfortunately, he ran into a number of seasons with no natural snow. Without the benefit of today's snowmaking technology, the ski areas closed.
Today, Buck Hill is still owned by the Stone family. Buck is still operated with the family in mind, offering a full range of skiing programs for the young and young-at-heart. Buck's reputation as a quality ski area is known across the country. Our racing program is also nationally-acclaimed. Ski Magazine calls Buck the "Legendary capital of American ski racing." The 1998 Olympic Winter Games in Nagano, Japan, saw two Buck Hill skiers on the US Olympic Team. Both Kristina Koznick and Tasha Nelson started their skiing careers as members of the Buck Hill Ski Racing Team.
